Amidst Impeachment Threats, Governor Fubara Commences One year in office Anniversary Celebration.
Despite threats of impeachment by 25 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly who had defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) since last year, the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has kick-started a 20-day programme of activities to mark his one-year in office on a very high note.
Fubara started the event on May 14, 2024 by inviting the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti to inaugurate the 10.89 km Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo road project in Eleme Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.
The governor explained that the rationale behind the invitation of Otti, to inaugurate the project is because he (Otti) is not an artificial integrity man but a pragmatic man.
Fubara stated: “I invited him because he is not an artificial integrity man. He is an action integrity man. He is not like the one who would gather to talk because they just want to talk.
“He is a man who came into office, in the face of difficulties and challenges, just like we are here, but he is making impact in the lives of Abians.
“So, I will continue to identify with good governance. I will continue to identify with people who want to make impact in the lives of the people. Our Government, as we promised you on day one: the people first.”
However, the Chairman of Central Planning Committee of the One-Year Anniversary of the governor, Dr. Tammy Danagogo who earlier announced the programme of activities during a Press Briefing in Port Harcourt said the 20-day programme will not be a display of much fun fare but will involve commissioning of projects, flag off of new ones and other activities.
Danagogo who is also the Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG) explained that the already inaugurated road in Eleme LGA is to serve as an alternative route to the East-West Road, while the Andoni section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity road will be commissioned on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
The SSG also stated that the programme will continue with flag off of the Elele-Umudioga-Egbeda-Ubimini-Ikiri-Omoku 31 km road on Thursday, May 16.
The inauguration of the Emohua-Terma road will be on Friday, May 17 while the commissioning of Egbeda internal roads project in Emohua LGA will take place on Monday, May 20.
Danagogo also said that the inauguration of Phase 1 of Port Harcourt Electrical Village and flag off of Phase 2 will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 adding that on Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 23, the Rivers State Economic and Investment Summit 2024 will be held in the state to discuss its investment opportunities.
“The Okania-Ogbogoro road in Obio/Akpor LGA will be flagged off on Friday, May 24, 2024,” Danagogo said.
Other events lined up for the one-year anniversary include; commissioning of the dualized Omoku-Egbema road on Saturday, May 25; hosting of Children by Her Excellency Lady Valerie Fubara, wife of the Governor, to mark the Children’s Day celebration on May 27.
This will be followed by a State Banquet to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the creation of Rivers State on the same date and this will be accompanied by the unveiling of a book on Rivers State.
As stated by the SSG, the programme continues on Tuesday, May 28, with the launching of a Youth Development programme; holding of Accountability Forum to present Governor Fubara’s stewardship and score-card on May 29, and the flag off of Phase 2 of Trans Kalabari road on Thursday, May 30 while the Governor will present certificates to some Traditional Rulers on Friday May 31 and this will be followed by a Praise Night on the same day.
Other events include Rivers Marathon on Saturday, June 1 and Thanksgiving Service at Saint Paul Anglican Cathedral Garrison, Port Harcourt on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Senibo Joe Johnson in his own contribution emphasised that a total of about 103 kilometers of road will be commissioned during the period and they too include Andoni section 27 km; Emohua-Terma 23km, Egbeda Internal roads 21km, Omoku-Egbema 21 and old Bori Road 11km.
